Further extension of tenant eviction ban

Further extension of tenant eviction ban

Published: 18/02/2021

Following on from our post on this subject last month, we can now report that the government has indeed again extended the ban on tenant evictions. It now runs until 31 March 2021.
The exceptions remain the same including illegal occupation, anti-social behaviour and rent arrears of six months or more.
The Housing Secretary, Robert Jenrick, has said that these “measures strike the right balance between protecting tenants and enabling landlords to exercise their right to justice.”
Landlords must give six months’ notice before starting possession proceedings.
